过去进行时用来表达过去某一时刻正在进行的动作，或为另一个过去事件提供背景。

一、构成规则

结构：was / were + 动词-ing

人称	肯定句	否定句	疑问句
I / He / She / It	I was reading	I wasn't reading	Was I reading?
You / We / They	They were reading	They weren't reading	Were they reading?

1. 过去某一时刻正在进行的动作

长动作（进行时）+ 短动作（一般过去时）
